- Cleaning: Your dentist will clean the socket, removing any debris from the hole, and then fill the socket with a medicated dressing, which will instantly relieve your pain.
- Antibiotics: Your dentist may prescribe antibiotics to prevent the socket from becoming infected.
- Salt Water: Your dentist may recommend rinsing with salt water at home.
Risk of Dry Sockets
Some people are more at risk of dry sockets than others, including people who:
- Smoke
- Have poor oral hygiene habits
- Have their wisdom teeth pulled
- Use birth control
- Have greater-than-normal trauma during extraction
