Tips for Improving Dental and Oral Hygiene Every Night

When you wake up in the morning, what’s the first thing you do? Here are some tips to follow if you’d like to ensure better dental and oral hygiene.

When you wake up in the morning, what’s the first thing you do? Go into the bathroom and start your morning routine. While it’s important to brush, floss, and use mouthwash every morning, that doesn’t mean you can skip it when it’s time for bed. Here are some tips to follow if you’d like to ensure better dental and oral hygiene.

Brush Again

Brushing your teeth should be a habit before you go to sleep. If you wake up in the middle of the night and want a snack, then you should brush your teeth yet again before going back to bed. By doing this, you can slow the spread of plaque and tartar. You can also stop tooth decay, tooth loss, and gum disease in their tracks. While unpleasant, these conditions are easily avoided when you stick to a responsible oral hygiene routine.

Try Electric Toothbrushes

Every few months, you should change your toothbrush. With cold and flu season on the way, you don’t want the germs you’ve dealt with all day hanging around in your mouth thanks to your toothbrush. This is a good time to try using an electric toothbrush, especially if your spouse already uses them and promises they are even more effective. Just one last thing – don’t let anyone borrow your toothbrush! Don’t give it to anyone, because you’re much better off just discarding it.

Use Mouthwash Regularly

One way you can tell that your oral hygiene isn’t as good as you think it is is when you have bad breath even after you brush your teeth. If that’s the case, then it’s a sign you should use mouthwash more frequently, especially if you neglect the flossing part of your oral care regimen.

Don’t Grind Your Teeth

Grinding your teeth is detrimental to your dental health. It also leads to your enamel wearing down faster, along with more toothaches and bleeding cheek tissues. However, you may be so used to grinding your teeth – either out of frustration or unconscious habit – that you don’t notice whenever you do it. If you think you have this problem, then it might be time to consider getting a mouth guard for when you’re asleep at night.
