How Do You Know You Need Emergency Dental Care?

Here at Annapolis Dental Care, we are happy to see patients who require emergency dental care.

Fear of the dentist is one of the most common phobias that many people cite as the reason why they don’t want to go. This anxiety can cause people to procrastinate and avoid scheduling another appointment, no matter how badly they need it. This often creates the need for emergency care. Here at Annapolis Dental Care, we are happy to see patients who require emergency dental care.

Loose Teeth

One sign of a dental emergency is loose teeth. In general, loose teeth in children is nothing to worry about, because their baby teeth are supposed to fall out. However, adults shouldn’t have loose teeth unless they have recently suffered an injury to their mouth or jaw. Once you seek emergency dental care, you can be evaluated for any more profound issues, such as nerve damage or hidden infections that can threaten your overall well-being.

Persistent Toothaches

Usually, toothaches are minor nuisances easily attributable to cavities or sensitive teeth. But when you always seem to be dealing with pain, or they are getting worse, then you need to seek out emergency care. We welcome new patients and existing patients, and everyone can see us when they need to, often on the same day that you give us a call. By contrast, many other offices will not be able to schedule you on such short notice.

Aching, Bleeding Gums

Your gums shouldn’t be aching or bleeding, either. This condition could be caused by inflammation, gingivitis, or periodontitis. Sticking to a daily oral hygiene routine that includes brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash is your best defense against tooth decay and bleeding gums. But finding out if you indeed have gum disease, and what you can do about it, will only happen if you get the dental care that you need.

Your Jaw is Swelling

Your jaw shouldn’t be swelling, either. If it is, it could be because a salivary gland is infected. These infections are generally caused by blockages that can interfere with how much saliva you produce. Other associated symptoms include fevers, foul tastes in your mouth, and trouble breathing or swallowing.

A Dental Abscess

A dental abscess can form after a root canal procedure. Even if it has been a year or more since you had a root canal performed, it can still become a problem. Chipped or broken teeth often cause lingering infections.Surgery can deal with the infection and ensure that it is drained enough to treat it.
