In the summertime, everyone loves tall glasses of cold lemonade and ice cream sundaes packed with nuts, chocolate sauce, sprinkles, and whipped cream. What if we told you that you can have cold summer treats that won’t harm your dental or oral health? As unbelievable as it sounds, it’s true!
Veggies
A veggie tray is good for any occasion. Even with large gatherings currently restricted, that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun. The starch of potato chips will linger, which means that bad bacteria in your mouth have something to feed on. Don’t let that happen to you. Raw vegetables actually clean your teeth for you! All you need to do is put together platters and trays of raw carrots, celery, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, broccoli, and yes, even veggie dip.
Dairy
Various dairy products make a difference too! Indulge in cheese, yogurt, and low-fat milk. That’s because they are all low in sugar and yet, are high in calcium. The calcium helps improve your teeth and strengthens the enamel. It could also fight off gum disease. Try making Caprese salad skewers as an appetizer for a light summer dinner. You can also try making Greek yogurt veggie dip that incorporates dill, parsley, and garlic powder.
Fruits
From veggies and dairy, we move onto fruits. Now, to be clear, we mean you eat seedless fruits. Fruits are naturally sweet, allowing you to get your sweet tooth satisfied without all of that added sugar. Watermelons and grapes can be found in seedless varieties. Also give bananas, apples, blueberries, mandarin oranges, pineapples, cantaloupes, and mangoes a shot. Did you know that orange juice can take your fruit salad to the next level? Give it a try!
Infused Water
Infused water is a great way to cool down on a hot summer’s day. This means you can leave the soda, ice cream floats, and lemonade behind, at least for now. Fill up a pitcher with some ice water. Then add some fruits and herbs as you like to jazz it up. Some combinations for you to sample include cucumber, lemon, and mint; strawberry, orange, and basil is a great idea too! If you don’t care for either of those combos, then blueberries and peaches could be for you. Just be sure to infuse the water for at least half an hour before you serve it.
