First, the area is numbed. The decay is then removed from the tooth and an opening is made through the crown to get down inside the tooth. Then, the pulp is removed from the tooth and the root canal itself is cleaned out and shaped to prepare for filling. Once they are ready to be filled, a soft filling is put in the tooth to make it more like the natural tooth again. Sometimes, though, a plastic rod needs to be inserted into the root canal so the filling hardens in the right way. After this is finished, the crown is restored to make the tooth strong and whole again. After a couple of days, the tooth will heal and the pain from the toothache will subside, giving you relief.
