Adding Mouthwash to Your Dental Routine

Mouthwash

There are many benefits to adding mouthwash to your daily dental hygiene routine!

Although brushing your teeth is an important part of your daily dental routine, it shouldn’t be the only part of it. We have already talked about the benefits of flossing, but what about using a mouthwash? Let’s talk about adding mouthwash to your dental routine.

Cuts Down Cavities

Although there are two different types of mouth washes, a fluoride and non-fluoride, it is recommended that most people use fluoride. When using a fluoride rinse, you are helping to strengthen your teeth. This added strength not only helps you avoid those dreaded cavities your dentist keeps warning you about.

Prevents Plaque Buildup

Various mouthwashes help to prevent plaque from building up around your teeth and gums. This plaque can contribute to cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. But when you use mouthwash, it helps to prevent this buildup, reducing this risk.

Fresh and Clean

Not only is mouthwash healthy for your teeth, it can also help to keep your mouth fresh and clean. Mouthwash helps to wash away food particles that can cling to your teeth, gums, tongue, and the roof and sides of your mouth. This food can cause bad breath as it feeds the bacteria in your mouth and decay in your mouth.

Use with Caution

Mouthwash is a great way to freshen your breath and prevent cavities but it must be used with caution. While mouthwash can help to mask bad breath, it is not a permanent situation and is not a cure for halitosis. The freshening affects do not last long, but can last longer when used with proper dental hygiene. If your mouthwash contains a lot of alcohol, it could cause an irritation to any canker sores. However, some mouthwashes have been known to help canker sores.

Mouthwash is an important part of your dental hygiene routine. When used in combination with a toothbrush and floss, your mouth will be healthier than ever! For more information, talk with your Annapolis Dental Care dentist.
