Most of the time, going to the dentist isn’t something you look forward to. You might have a terrible case of dental anxiety, for instance. However, when you need emergency dentistry, you can’t always put it off. Here are some reasons why you will need to see an emergency dentist as soon as you can.
Loose Teeth
Your teeth can start to come loose for many different reasons. In children, this is much more common, since their baby teeth are making way for their permanent teeth to grow in. But when you are older, your teeth could be loose to injury or infection. Even if the enamel appears undamaged, there could be other, deeper problems that you can’t see with unaided eyes. It’s worth it to see an emergency dentist to screen out the possibility of nerve damage, damage to your jaw, or gum disease.
Severe Pain
When you start to feel severe pain in your mouth, it’s not always due to having sensitive teeth. A minor toothache is a nuisance, but it should pass in a day or two. Sometimes, though, the pain can be caused by wisdom teeth crowding the corners of your mouth unless you can get them removed. You should do everything you can to avoid and prevent toothaches, but if you have one that has hurt for too long, then it’s time to see an emergency dentist.
Swelling Jaws
Your jaws shouldn’t be swelling. Under normal circumstances, your jaw shouldn’t cause you any pain of any kind. If you do have a swollen jaw, it could be a sign of an infection. In this case, you should see an emergency dentist. Other worrying symptoms you may experience include odd tastes in your mouth, fevers, and trouble with breathing or swallowing.
Abscesses
An abscessed tooth is another reason to see an emergency dentist. The abscess means that it has reached the root of your tooth. If you have let cavities go untreated for too long, it increases your risks of developing an abscess. Injuries and chipped teeth can make them worse, too. An emergency dentist can treat you and perform surgery to alleviate your symptoms.
